At an age when most toddlers are still unsteady on their feet, 21-month-old Veda Paresh Sarfare from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, has already made history. On December 5, 2025, the India Book of Records officially declared her India’s youngest swimmer after she completed a remarkable 100-metre swim in 10 minutes and 8 seconds.
This extraordinary achievement places Veda Sarfare firmly in the national record books as the youngest child ever to swim 100 metres continuously and be officially recognised for the feat.
Veda’s journey began far earlier than anyone could have predicted. At just 9 months old, she was taken to Ratnagiri’s government swimming pool while accompanying her mother and elder brother, who trains there regularly for state-level competitions. Seated on the pool deck, the infant watched intently. One day, Coach Mahesh Milke gently placed her in the water. Instead of crying, Veda instinctively moved her arms and legs, forming an immediate bond with the water.
From that moment, systematic training began. Over the next 11 months, under the guidance of Coach Mahesh Milke and Coach Gauri Milke, Veda progressed from floating and kicking to mastering proper strokes and breath control. Every session was conducted with extreme care, ensuring safety while steadily building endurance.
In December 2025, at exactly 1 year and 9 months of age, Veda lined up at the wall of the same public pool and swam four full lengths—100 metres—without assistance, completing the distance in 10 minutes and 8 seconds.
The India Book of Records verified the swim through video evidence, timing, and supervision protocols, and officially awarded her the title “Youngest Swimmer (Female) to Swim 100 Metres” in India.
As of December 10, 2025, Veda Sarfare remains the undisputed record holder in this category. No younger child in the country has matched or broken her mark.
With this single swim, the tiny girl from coastal Ratnagiri has not only etched her name in the India Book of Records but has also become a national symbol of what is possible when talent meets early opportunity.
