Exclusive Interview with Rajesh Dandotiya

What was the turning point in your journey?
The memories of feeling demotivated while battling malaria just days before the mains exam resurfaced. I recall sobbing to my elder brother over the phone. In his highly soothing tone he said, “Come home. We’ll survive on dal and roti, your health matters most.” His words left a mark on me. At that moment, I understood that I was not merely pursuing a goal, but rather the burden of the dreams and sacrifices my family made. That very night, I took a vow to God where I declared, “I will not return without succeeding.” And, just like that, I did.
How did you become a cyber expert in the force?
I did not have much knowledge on technology in the past. But seeing the plight of the elderly in particular, and how they almost effortlessly lost all their savings due to a single incorrect click, truly hit me. As a result, I decided to change that for the better. So, I started attending workshops and reading case studies to understand how these fraudulent cases were happening and the patterns behind them.
What stayed with you from the dacoity encounter?
Caught in a dense forest with nearly 80 bullets from AK-47s flying around us, it was one of the scariest moments of my life. Yet, in that chaos, fear disappeared and duty took over. It wasn’t about medals, it was about protecting my team and rescuing the kidnapped child. When the silence came, and we were all alive, I understood that real policing means courage, compassion, and showing up when it matters most.
Your message to aspirants?
Failures don’t define you, they refine you. Believe in the process. Your day will come.
