Surrounded by four sisters and two brothers, young Raj Pal learned early the values of hard work, unity, and quiet resilience.
His childhood unfolded amid simple joys—helping on the farm, studying in the village school up to Class 12, and dreaming beyond the horizon. Little could anyone foresee that this village lad would one day become a beacon of courage and innovation in India’s law enforcement landscape.
A Calling to Serve: The Early Years in Uniform
On April 1, 1986, Raj Pal took his first step into a lifelong calling by joining the Delhi Police as a constable. From rural tranquility to the pulsating chaos of the capital, he adapted with unwavering determination. Serving in the Delhi Armed Police, PCR, and North West District, he balanced duty with ambition, completing his graduation from Delhi University in 1990.
By 1992, his merit earned him promotion to Sub-Inspector through the SSC, opening doors to postings in West and South Districts, 3rd Battalion DAP, and the prestigious Special Cell.
Moments of Valor: Confronting Danger Head-On
It was in the Special Cell that Dabas’ legend began to unfold. Fearlessly arresting gangsters and desperate criminals, he contributed vitally to high-profile investigations.
In 2005, in a heart-pounding encounter in Dwarka, he confronted and neutralized three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists—an act of sheer bravery that earned him an out-of-turn promotion to Inspector in 2006.
This was no isolated feat. Over his illustrious career, ACP Dabas participated in 14 encounters, arrested 25 rewarded criminals (including a two-lakh reward target in 2021), recovered crucial evidence like Aarushi’s mobile in the infamous Noida murder case, and played pivotal roles in probes into the Red Fort shootout and Parliament attack. His tally: 1,272 arrests, including terrorists, gangsters, 70 proclaimed offenders, and 95 bad characters.
Rise to Leadership and Enduring Expertise
Rising through elite postings—thrice in Special Cell and Crime Branch, leading Anti-Auto Theft Squads and Special Staff units—Dabas was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2021. Today, in the Crime Branch since 2024, his expertise shines.
He is masterful in cyber crimes, frauds, and CDR analysis; maintains data on over 50,000 criminals; and is a trainer who has delivered 150+ lectures and visited 1,000+ police stations nationwide.
His accolades speak volumes: ₹4 lakhs in cash rewards, 145 commendation rolls from Commissioners across India, 60 appreciation letters (including from Nepal Police), and special honors for leadership and G-20 Summit duties.
A Visionary Bridge-Builder: Revolutionizing Police Coordination

Drawing from vast liaisons across states and abroad, he pioneered revolutionary social media networks:
- A National Police Group on Telegram with 20,000 members across 100 subgroups
- WhatsApp networks exceeding 20,000 members in 50 groups
- A 10,000-strong Facebook community
These platforms connect constables to Directors General from every state, district, and over 12,000 police stations, including experts from CBI, NIA, IB, and even Nepal Police.
Through shared intelligence, CCTV analysis, and cyber awareness, these groups have solved thousands of cases, tracked fugitives, recovered vehicles, and fostered unbreakable bonds—even extending to personal support among members. They have enhanced Delhi Police’s reputation, streamlined inter-agency coordination, and reached international levels of cooperation.

A Glimpse into the Heart of a Hero
What inspired a young boy from a farming family in Mazra Dabas to join the police force?
The desire to serve society and protect the innocent drove me. Growing up in a simple village, I saw how law and order brought peace to communities. Joining as a constable in 1986 was my way of giving back and pursuing justice.
Can you share a moment from your career that tested your courage the most?
The 2005 encounter with three LeT terrorists in Dwarka stands out. In that intense confrontation, instinct and duty took over. It reinforced that bravery is about standing firm for what’s right, no matter the risk.
You’ve participated in 14 encounters and arrested over 1,200 criminals—what keeps you motivated through such high-stakes work?
The satisfaction of making society safer and seeing justice served. Every arrest, especially of rewarded criminals or terrorists, protects countless lives. The commendations and appreciation from colleagues fuel that fire.
Your pioneering police groups on social media have transformed inter-state coordination—how did this idea come about?
From years of building liaisons across states, I realized information sharing was key to solving crimes faster. Starting with WhatsApp and expanding to Telegram and Facebook created a national family of officers, helping solve thousands of cases through real-time collaboration.
What message would you give to young aspiring police officers today?
Stay committed, keep learning, and build networks. Policing is not just about individual heroism—it’s about unity, integrity, and using technology wisely to serve the people with empathy and dedication.
