Breaking Barriers, Building Hope: Dr. Ridhima Seth’s Journey from Medicine to Delhi Police
In the heart of Delhi’s bustling administrative corridors, one name stands out for her relentless dedication to women and child welfare — Dr. Ridhima Seth, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP), SPUWAC (Special Police Unit for Women and Children). A beacon of strength, resilience, and purpose, Dr
. Seth embodies a unique blend of compassion and courage.
Born and raised in Delhi, Dr. Ridhima Seth is the only child of her parents. Her formative years were spent at Bal Bharti School, where she excelled academically and imbibed strong values of discipline and responsibility. Her passion for helping people led her to the field of medicine. She pursued her medical degree from PGIMS Rohtak, one of North India’s premier medical institutions.
However, destiny had a different path in store.
Despite a promising career in medicine, Dr. Seth felt a stronger calling — a desire to serve the nation on a larger platform. With determination and single-minded focus, she prepared for and successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination in 2015, joining the prestigious Delhi Police as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Today, as Addl. DCP of SPUWAC, Dr. Seth plays a critical role in shaping policies and interventions for the protection and empowerment of women and children in the capital. Her medical background gives her a unique perspective on issues of trauma, mental health, and victim rehabilitation — a rare but much-needed combination in law enforcement.
Dr. Seth holds regular coordination meetings with NGOs, child welfare agencies, legal aid organizations, and women’s rights groups. Under her leadership, SPUWAC has initiated several community outreach programs and awareness drives, focusing on safety, education, and mental health support for vulnerable groups.
Her work is not confined to the desk. Known for her proactive field engagement, Dr. Seth is often seen visiting shelter homes, attending grassroots-level workshops, and personally interacting with survivors to ensure they receive the support they need.
Empowering Through Self-Defence
One of the landmark initiatives under her leadership has been the organization of large-scale self-defence camps across Delhi. These camps, targeting young girls and women, are more than just training sessions — they are platforms of empowerment.
For the first time, under Dr. Seth’s supervision, modern self-defence equipment and safety gear were introduced during the training. These included advanced protective kits, simulation tools, and real-time response drills — equipping participants not only with techniques but with confidence. The camps have been widely appreciated for bridging the gap between awareness and real-world preparedness.
“Empowerment begins when a woman feels safe in her surroundings and strong in her own body. Self-defence is not just a skill, it is a right,” says Dr. Seth.
Her inspiring journey — from the corridors of a medical college to the frontlines of policing — is a reminder that true service goes beyond titles and uniforms. It lies in the impact one creates in the lives of others.
As Delhi continues to evolve, leaders like Dr. Ridhima Seth offer not just hope but a powerful example of how empathy and excellence can transform governance.
“I believe every child and every woman deserves a safe environment to thrive. That belief fuels my commitment every single day,” says Dr. Seth.
Indeed, her story is not just one of achievement — it is a testament to purpose-driven leadership in public service.
