Q: What inspired you to enter politics and serve the people of Maharashtra?
I had never thought of entering in politics, as I was interested and happy during my ABVP days. Even at one point of time I had decided to leave home as full time Pracharak of ABVP. But it was RSS decided to work in BJP and no option left. After entering politics and witnessing the challenges faced by the common people of Maharashtra motivated me to work towards their betterment. I believe that politics offers a platform to create meaningful change and uplift the lives of individuals and communities. This drive to serve my state and its people became the foundation of my political journey.
Q: Could you highlight some of your notable achievements as Deputy Chief Minister?
During my tenure as Deputy Chief Minister, I am proud of the progress we have made in several key areas under the leadership of CM Eknath Shinde: Infrastructure Development: We have successfully implemented infrastructure projects like the Mumbai Metro and the Nagpur Metro, revolutionizing urban transportation in Maharashtra. These initiatives have not only enhanced connectivity but have also propelled economic growth and employment opportunities.
Empowering Farmers: Our government launched the JalyuktShivar Abhiyan, a transformative program aimed at making villages drought-proof and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Crop insurance in just 1 rupee, Namo Kisan Maha Samman Nidhi, where we are giving additional Rs 6000 to farmers apart from the 6000 rupees by Hon PM Narendra Modi ji’s Govt (Maharashtra farmers getting 12,000 rupees annually) have provided vital support to our farming community.
Digital Transformation: We have prioritized the digitization of government services, making them easily accessible to the citizens of Maharashtra. This has streamlined processes, reduced corruption, and enhanced efficiency and transparency in governance.
Skill Development: We have emphasized skill development initiatives to bridge the gap between education and employment. By providing vocational training to our youth, we are equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed in the modern job market.
Q: What are the main challenges you face in your role as Deputy Chief Minister?
Challenges doesn’t matter when you go with positive attitude. If you sincerely consider what people say and come up with amicable solutions, I see challenges an opportunity.
Q: What measures have you taken to boost employment and entrepreneurship in Maharashtra?
We have prioritized employment generation and entrepreneurship in Maharashtra to drive economic growth and create opportunities for the workforce. During my tenure as CM The “Magnetic Maharashtra” initiative was a great success and Maharashtra was on top in FDI for 4 years. Now once again we are on top. On one hand we are attracting investment and on other hand we are providing numerous initiatives for skill training. Our aim is to create youth force of job creators. Additionally, startup initiatives, providing aspiring entrepreneurs and job seekers with the necessary resources and support to thrive in a competitive market.
Q: How have you contributed to women’s empowerment in Maharashtra?
We are strong advocates for women’s empowerment in Maharashtra. Government under CM Eknath Shinde has implemented various policies and programs that prioritize the safety, education, and economic empowerment of women. Initiatives such as the “Tejaswini” project, aimed at improving the socio-economic status of rural women, and the “Majhi KanyaBhagyashree” scheme, which supports the girl child through financial aid, exemplify your commitment to fostering gender equality and inclusivity in the state. We are also providing 50% discount to women travelling in State transport.
Q: How have you addressed the challenges of urban development in Maharashtra?
We have tackled the challenges of urban development head-on in Maharashtra, recognizing the need for sustainable and inclusive growth. State government has implemented the “Smart Cities Mission,” focusing on the comprehensive development of urban areas. Initiatives such as affordable housing schemes, improved public transportation systems, and urban rejuvenation projects have been undertaken to create vibrant, liveable cities that cater to the needs of all residents.
Q: What steps have you taken to enhance healthcare services in Maharashtra?
We have made significant efforts to enhance healthcare services in Maharashtra, prioritizing the well-being of the citizens. The “Mahatma Jotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana” has been implemented to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to economically weaker sections of society. We have raised the coverage upto 5 lakhs from the earlier 1.5 lakh. Government has also focused on upgrading medical infrastructure, establishing new hospitals, and increasing the availability of specialized healthcare services, ensuring that every individual in Maharashtra has access to quality medical care.
