Vinai Saxena, Delhi’s New Lt Governor
Ex Chief Of Khadi Commission Vinai Saxena has been appointed as the New Lt Governor of Delhi after Anil Bajial’s exit on Monday.
Anil Baijal’s resigned from the office due to his personal reasons. Mr Baijal had taken over as Lieutenant Governor in December 2016, before that he was a retired civil servant. Mr. Baijal was appointed as Lt Governor on the abupt resignation of Najeeb Jung.
The role of Lieutenant Governor had been at the core of a hard and fast power tussle between Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the BJP, which rules at the centre, for a really long time until a milestone Supreme Court judgment in 2018 that illuminated their powers in a clearer way.
A press statement from the President’s office read “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
