In the early hours of Wednesday, a major fire broke out at a lumber godown in Secunderabad, Telangana, killing at least eleven persons.
When the fire broke out, police-reported twelve migrant workers from Bihar were trapped in the godown, which was located in a congested area of Secunderabad’s Bhoiguda. While one worker managed to escape the fire by jumping from the first floor of the two-story structure, eleven others perished.
A short circuit in the godown is thought to have started the fire. Officials stated the incident is being investigated and that the fire has been extinguished.
The lifeless remains of laborers murdered in the fire are being sent to Bihar. They said that the workers were unable to escape themselves because the building only had one internal spiral stairway.
