SHRISHTI SHARMA – GLIDING THROUGH OBSTACLES TO MAKE HISTORY

For 18-year-old Shrishti Sharma, breaking records is nothing new, she keeps outdoing herself. But the challenges she faces off the skating rink have been just as formidable. Despite financial struggles and societal criticism, she has risen above every obstacle to make history. Shrishti’s father, Dharmendra Sharma, who works as a driver, always ensured that difficulties did not obstruct his daughter’s aspirations. He secured a ₹27 lakh loan to support her training, making sure she had all the chances to thrive. In exchange, Shrishti created history, not just once, but seven times, earning her spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for limbo skating. She not only achieved her father’s aspirations but also brought honour to India. Hailing from Nagpur, Shrishti began skating when she was four years old. Today, she is the first female globally to have her name noted in the Guinness World Records for Ice Limbo Skating. Lately, she made history once more by finishing a 50-meter limbo skate in only 9.59 seconds, demonstrating yet again that she is an undeniable force.
Limbo skating requires exceptional flexibility, rapidity, and accuracy. Skaters move swiftly beneath obstacles, demanding prominent levels of control and balance. Shrishti’s unparalleled achievements showcase her remarkable commitment and discipline. Her journey exemplifies the strength of parental encouragement and determination. With each milestone, she demonstrates that ambitions can be realised through hard work and perseverance. Or, as Shrishti Sharma puts it in her own style; dreams just need a good pair of skates! While she consistently challenges the boundaries of possibility, Shrishti serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes, demonstrating that no obstacle is insurmountable when driven by passion.
