Question: Can you share with us what inspired you to become an actor and delve into social work along with acting, particularly focusing on rural communities?
Answer: My journey has been a mix of hurdles and victories, driven by my enduring love for storytelling and a strong desire to make a positive impact. Acting has always been a powerful tool for me to express myself and connect with others. Witnessing the struggles of my family losing their farm to industrialisation in Aurangabad, along with recognising the stark inequalities faced by rural communities, fuelled my determination to address these issues. This led me to combine my passion for acting with social work, aiming to bring about meaningful change in marginalised and overlooked areas.
Question: What drew you to your roles and how do you approach your roles as an actor, particularly after winning Best Actor awards? How does it feel to receive recognition on a global scale?
Answer: Each role I undertake presents a unique challenge and opportunity for growth as an actor. After winning Best Actor awards, I approach my roles with even greater dedication, striving for authenticity and depth in my portrayal. Being recognised on a global scale is incredibly gratifying and underscores the universal power of storytelling.
Question: What challenges have you faced in your social work endeavours, and what are your aspirations for the future of your social impact initiatives?
Answer: Bureaucratic obstacles, maintaining support, and limited resources have been ongoing challenges. Despite all, I am committed to expanding my initiatives to reach more marginalised communities and addressing a wider range of issues. My vision is to foster sustainable development, promote social justice, and empower individuals and communities to build a better future for themselves.
Question: How do you balance your acting career with your commitment to social work?
Answer: Balancing both is a priority for me. I choose acting projects that resonate with my values, even if it means taking on fewer acting roles. Engaging with real-world experiences outside the industry enriches my performances and keeps me grounded.
Question: Could you elaborate on your approach to social work, especially in terms of community involvement and sustainability?
Answer: I believe in actively involving communities in our work, empowering them to lead once they are self-reliant. Collaboration with local people and government officials is crucial. Sustainability is the key, and I focus on addressing various issues like groundwater rejuvenation, education, sanitation, and gender sensitisation through my non-profit, the Nabhangan Foundation.
In the world of Indian Showbiz, Rajshri Deshpande stands out not just for her exceptional acting skills but also for her unwavering dedication to social causes.
